Let’s begin

Building your future

Building Your Future is an award-winning social mobility programme that originated as a collaboration between JLL and Meta. Initially developed under the name Real Estate Diversity Inclusion (REDI), the partnership was formed in response to detailed research highlighting a critical challenge: the real estate industry faces significant barriers to entry for young people, particularly those from under-represented and lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Virtual

Building Your Future is anchored by our virtual work experience course. Our programme is anchored by our free-to-access virtual work experience course, introducing students to the industry through six tailored modules, while our employment pillar works in partnership with community groups and charities to create pathways to work for candidates from under-represented backgrounds.

Employment

Building Your Future goes beyond virtual learning by helping young people take their first steps into the workplace. Through partnerships with employers, charities, and community organisations, our Employment Pillar creates meaningful opportunities for young people from underrepresented backgrounds to gain professional experience, build confidence, and develop the skills needed for long-term career success.

Why are all of these companies working together?

Building Your Future was created to address urgent diversity and youth employment challenges in the real estate sector. A recent independent report revealed only 22% of employees come from lower socio-economic backgrounds, with diversity decreasing sharply at senior levels. The sector remains heavily skewed towards those from higher socio-economic backgrounds, and senior roles are dominated by white males from privileged backgrounds.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment is rising rapidly in the UK and across Europe, with NEET rates among 16–24-year-olds nearing record highs. Building Your Future brings together organisations to help tackle these issues and foster greater opportunity and inclusion.

Hear from students

"What I enjoyed the most is gaining insights into diverse topics that are related to real estate and planning. This allows me to know a variety of career options in the real estate industry.

The webinars and tasks of each module give me a better picture of what it's like to be working in that area and enable me to get a taste of transaction management, data analysis, project management, facilities management, and interior design so that I can figure out which areas of work I'm truly interested in."

"I really appreciated the flexibility to work whenever and wherever I wanted, which allowed me to create my own schedule. This freedom helped me enhance my time management skills as I planned my week effectively and consistently met deadlines. As a university student on break, I found this productive use of my time incredibly rewarding, and the fact that this program is certificate-based gave me a real sense of accomplishment.

Additionally, I enjoyed the activities, which were both creative and thought-provoking. They encouraged me to think outside the box and approach challenges from different perspectives."

"My favorite area to learn about during the online real estate work experience program was property valuation. Understanding how different factors such as location, market trends, and property conditions affect the value of real estate was fascinating.

I enjoyed analysing various properties, using valuation methods, and seeing how small changes could significantly impact the property's worth. This knowledge not only deepened my appreciation for the real estate market but also provided practical skills that are crucial for making informed investment decisions."
